Engineered Filtration Systems
|
HVAC
Applications:
Problem:
Evaporative cooling towers have the inherent side effect of being an air
scrubber. As water cascades through the cooling tower, it becomes
saturated with suspended solids (i.e. dirt, dust, organic matter and
pollution). These solids are deposited throughout the cooling system where
they can foul condensers, heat exchangers, and other process equipment.
The result is an inefficient system with increased operating costs.
Solution:
A Puroflux filtration system, installed side-stream on the cooling
tower basin or in the condenser water line will substantially reduce the
volume of suspended solids without affecting or interrupting the operation
of the cooling equipment.
Benefits:
Reduced fouling results in increased efficiency and energy savings. In
addition, a clean cooling tower basin and condenser can decrease system
maintenance. Typical systems installations have a payback period of less
than two (2) years.
Potable/Waste Water Applications: On
city or well supplies, waste or recovery systems, where water quality is
not adequate, Puroflux can design a filtration system that can provide the
necessary results. Puroflux filters can be utilized as a primary filter to
handle the removal of heavy particulate or as a pre-filter to polish
filtration. Puroflux offers a wide variety of filtration medias that can
be used to eliminate most contaminants.
Process Applications: Industrial
processes that involve the use of water whether for cooling, rinsing or
wash-down will benefit from clean water. Often in these processes, the
water becomes contaminated and is discarded. Puroflux engineers can review
the process operation and design a filtration system that can help recycle
and optimize water resources.
Aquatic Features: Decorative
fountains, amusement park water attractions and aquatic zoo habitats
require high clarity and water quality. Filtration systems are a necessity
for these applications. Puroflux can supply a filter specifically designed
to suit any of these demanding applications. |

Permanent
Media Filtration |
|
Permanent media filtration has
a distinct advantage over disposable bags, cartridges or hydrocyclone
separators. Permanent media filtration is a positive filtering media that
is easily back washed for cleaning. Puroflux filters utilize the finest
media. This media can be used individually or combined to optimize
filtration efficiency. Puroflux standard media physically removes
particulate down to 5 micron and smaller. |
FILTER
OPERATION: Filtration Cycle
Influent1 (wastewater or other liquid flowing into a treatment
process) is directed through a series of valves into the over drain of the
filter, where it is evenly distributed over the filtration media. It is
then forced down through the media bed where the suspended particulate is
trapped in the voids formed between the media. The clean effluent2
(wastewater or other liquid flowing from a treatment process) then passes
through the under drain and is returned to the original source. As the
voids in the media are filled, the filter will start to blind off. When
the maximum differential pressure is reached, the filter will require
backwash. |

FILTER
OPERATION: Backwash Cycle
The filter is back washed by reversing the fluid flow through the filter.
The backwash fluid is directed into the filter through the under drain and
up through the media. As the backwash fluid moves through the media, it
causes the bed to lift and separate. The tumbling action of the media
causes a scouring effect which releases trapped particulate and suspends
it in the backwash flow. The fluid then carries the particulate that is
suspended up through the overdrain and out to waste. |
